Exposed Dentition Finn Raccoon Skull
First, lets talk about what exposed dentition is! It is the process of carefully drilling or scraping around the teeth of a skull to expose the dentition for study and is known as osteological preparation or often times called “exposed dentition”. It is not a single, named procedure but rather a careful method of preparation used by osteologists and forensic anthropologists.
The purpose is to examine teeth that may still be embedded in the jawbone. Techniques for this can include:
Physical excavation: Careful and methodical removal of the surrounding bone to expose the hidden tooth roots or unerupted teeth.
Manual removal: Small dental picks, brushes, and other tools are used for careful manual dissection of the jawbone.
What makes this unique:
A perfect and rare piece for collectors of natural history and oddities
Expertly cleaned and hand drilled by the owner & founder of Second Aerie
Get a glimpse of the roots and teeth of this beautiful and well preserved Finn Raccoon.
This skull features one side of its jaws with exposed dentition and the other side is featured as is, in its natural state, so you can compare each side.
Perfect for starting conversations and impressing guests in your home collection.
*It should be noted that this particular skull is sourced from a generational family owned fur farm and tannery in Alaska. The raccoon was bred for its fur. This skull is byproduct of that process.
